“Hey, Beck!”

“I’m gonna do a file purge on the servers to open up some space … give me a hand?”

Beck’s brow furrowed worriedly—if this meant what he thought it meant, he was about to be dragged into the role of plausible deniability.

“Crap,” he whispered.

“What was that?”

“Uh … nothing.  This—this fragment’s been a little elusive, that’s all.  Can I finish this first?”

The other TARU tech shrugged and leaned against Beck’s desk.  “Whatever, man.”

“You’re just gonna … uh, wait there?”

“Why not?”

“What about your case load?”

“What about it?” the other man asked, smiling.  Beck sighed and returned his eyes to his computer screen, his mind racing.  After a moment, he reached for his phone and dialed.

“Detective Lupo?  It’s Beck, at the lab … that thing you, uh, asked me to look into the other day?  We’ve got it, uh … it’s just about happening.”

As Beck hung up, the other tech snorted.  “Is he even gonna know what you’re talking about?”

Beck nodded, his eyes staying firmly riveted to his computer screen.  “He should.”  And you don’t.  That’s the point.

The other tech watched for a few more seconds.  “How long is that gonna take?”

Beck shrugged.  “As long as it takes, I guess.”

The other tech sighed heavily and pushed himself upright.  “Well, let me know when you’re done.”

Lupo listened intently to his voicemail, then turned to Salazar.  “It’s Beck,” he said grimly.  “He said that someone’s about to screw around with the servers.  Screw around more.”

Salazar followed on Lupo’s heels as he strode quickly from the squad room.

Bernard watched them go, brow furrowed.  A moment later, he picked up his own phone.  “Hey, Sarge?  ’S Bernard….”

I hope Beck doesn't get screwed over because of this. :( Bringing in Andy Sipowicz was a brilliant move, because I love him, and hearing about Theo, even in a fanfic, totally made my day. :) Poor Mike, I can't even imagine how oeverwhelming all of this would be, but at least hea's back on the road to getting the stuff he needs.

I absolutely LOVE all the characters you're using, and this is a really, really interesting case. Can't wait to see what happens! :)

Thanks! I'm not entirely sure how well I can write Sipowicz--I think I've seen all of about four eps of NYPD Blue (and TNT has stopped showing it! Augh!) The good news is, I think I know where this is going to end up. The bad news is, I'm not entirely sure what route will be taken to get there.
